Portrait taken at her home
Sachiko Oshima
Japanese Abstract Artist
My work explores the simple accents and textures of our surroundings, often overlooked, yet rich in character. I am fascinated by the surface of old building walls, as well as patterns and shapes that nature creates and alters.
I extract the emotion and the strongest parts of what I see and experiment with composition, colours and texture. The layers of paint are continuously concealed and revealed until a story emerges. For commission projects, inspiration is drawn from the ambience, colour combination of the space and most importantly, the lifestyle of my client.
This creative curiosity of capturing such details developed through my nomadic experiences, living in and exploring Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Chicago and most recently, Athens. I gather inspiration from their unique attributes as the central core to my work, combining the French aesthetic appreciation, the American boldness and the Japanese sensitivity and attention to detail.
In 2018, I started painting with a perspective on interior design. My works have been commissioned by the private collectors in Chicago, Miami, Tokyo, London, Paris and Athens.
